Searching Standard: Whimsicott-GX / Porygon-Z / Inteleon Deck

Hello and welcome to another episode of Searching Standard. This week we'll be taking a look at a deck featuring Whimsicott-GX UNB 140 that recently took first place at a tournament in Japan. Let's get started by taking a look at the decklist.

As I mentioned earlier, Whimsicott-GX UNB 140 is the star of this deck. With its Fluffy Cotton Ability, you'll be able to take, on average, twice as many attacks before getting Knocked Out. That allows you the extra time needed to power up the rest of your team and still get a KO or two by attacking with Energy Blow. Before Whimsicott-GX UNB 140 gets Knocked Out, you'll want to try using its Toy Box GX attack, which will add any five cards from your deck to your hand to use in the future. This should allow you to set up your next few moves.

While Porygon-Z UNB 157 can be used as a decent attacker thanks to its Tantrum attack, you'll most often want to keep Porygon-Z UNB 157 planted on your Bench as long as possible. This allows you to use its Crazy Code Ability for as long as possible, allowing you to attach multiple Energy cards to your Pokemon.

Both Inteleon SSH 58 and Drizzile SSH 56 have Abilities that help you find the Trainer cards you need for this deck to run efficiently. Shady Dealings will get you either one or two Trainer cards that you can use to find specific Pokemon with or to simply draw additional cards.

Dedenne-GX UNB 57 serves one purpose in this deck, and that's to draw additional cards. Its Dedechange Ability allows you to discard your hand and draw six new cards when you play Dedenne-GX UNB 57 to your Bench. This will help you find the cards you need from your deck more quickly.

Cramorant V SSH 155 has a couple of attacks that can help you in a pinch. With Beak Catch, you'll deal no damage, but you'll be able to add any two cards from your deck to your hand. This helps set up your next turn, possibly allowing you to take the upper hand. Its Spit Shot attack deals 160 damage to any of your opponent's Pokemon. This can be a great way to pick off a Pokemon sitting on your opponent's Bench.

Both Evolution Incense SSH 163 and Rare Candy SSH 180 allow you to find and evolve your Pokemon more quickly. Rare Candy SSH 180 is especially necessary for you to be able to evolve Porygon UNB 154 into Porygon-Z UNB 157 since there are zero copies of Porygon2 in this deck.

This next pairing of cards allows you to find the Pokemon you need as you need them. Quick Ball SSH 179 allows you to find any Basic Pokemon from your deck at the cost of discarding another card from your hand. With Pokemon Communication TEU 152, you'll be able to trade any Pokemon currently in your hand with another from your deck, including evolution Pokemon.

As you can see, there are quite a few cards that allow you to discard things from your hand. You can use Lana's Fishing Rod CEC 195 to shuffle back into your deck a Pokemon and a Pokemon Tool. Keep that in mind when deciding what to discard.

Custom Catcher LOT 171 is the ultimate in combat tricks. By playing two copies of Custom Catcher LOT 171, you're able to switch your opponent's Active Pokemon with one from their Bench. Use this to set up an easy KO.

These Fairy Charm cards are all included as a way to help counter certain decks. If the Charm you're holding has no effect in the current game, you can always discard it when other cards require you to discard cards from your hand.

This batch of cards all allow you to draw additional cards. Usually, the player who is able to draw more of their cards has an advantage. You'll want to use these cards often to help you draw into the cards you need.

Chaotic Swell CEC 187 has become a Standard staple card found in a lot of decks. It allows you a way to deal with an opponent's Stadium card two times. That efficiency is why it's played in a variety of decks.

As you can see, this deck has no Basic Energy in it. All of the Energy cards are Special Energy, allowing you to maximize the effectiveness of Porygon-Z UNB 157's Crazy Code Ability.

Wrapping Up

While this deck requires a little bit of luck, it has all of the tools necessary to win a tournament. Even though I'm not the luckiest of players, I'm looking forward to sleeving this deck up and giving it a try.
