Searching Standard: Slowpoke & Psyduck-GX / Keldeo-GX Deck

Hello and welcome to another episode of Searching Standard. While opening up packs of Unified Minds, I opened up a couple of copies of Slowpoke & Psyduck-GX UNM 35. You can imagine my excitement when I came across today's deck that had been posted to the PokeBeach Forums by a user named Yaginku, as it features Slowpoke & Psyduck-GX UNM 35. Let's get started by taking a look at the deck.

$ 0.00 $ 0.00

With Slowpoke & Psyduck-GX UNM 35's Ditch and Splash attack, you're able to deal quite a bit of damage to your opponent's Active Pokemon, as long as you're able to discard a few Supporter cards from your hand for each attack. This deck has a total of seventeen Supporters in it, but you won't want to discard all of them for this attack.

As a side note, don't plan on using Slowpoke & Psyduck-GX UNM 35's Thrilling Times GX attack, since it's not likely that you'll deal more than 10 damage with it. In order to flip 10 coins for the potential of 1010 damage, you'd need to attach all but one of the Water Energy 3 included in this deck to Slowpoke & Psyduck-GX UNM 35, which is very unlikely to happen.

$ 0.00 $ 0.00   $ 0.00 $ 0.00

Lapras UNM 36's Mermaid's Call Ability allows you to bring back a copy of Misty's Favor UNM 202 from your discard pile to your hand each turn. With that Ability by itself, you'll be able to attack with Slowpoke & Psyduck-GX UNM 35's Ditch and Splash attack for a minimum of 40 damage each turn. If you happen to play Misty's Favor UNM 202 instead of discarding it, you'll be able to search up three Supporter cards from your deck and put them into your hand, allowing Ditch and Splash to deal up to 120 damage.

$ 0.00 $ 0.00

The Pure Heart Ability of Keldeo-GX UNM 47 makes Keldeo-GX UNM 47 immune to any damage and effects of any attack from your opponent's Pokemon-GX. This includes Tag Team Pokemon as well, so if your opponent has a Pokemon-GX heavy team, make sure Keldeo-GX UNM 47 is on the front lines. With Keldeo-GX UNM 47's Sonic Edge attack, you'll be able to deal out 110 damage to your opponent's Active Pokemon that can't be affected by any effects. Keldeo-GX UNM 47 also has a great GX attack in Resolute Blade GX, that will deal 50 damage to your opponent's Active Pokemon for each Pokemon they have on their Bench.

Jirachi TEU 99 has become a must-include Pokemon in many decklists. It's Stellar Wish Ability allows you to put a Trainer card from the top five cards of your deck into your hand, at the cost of putting Jirachi TEU 99 to sleep. Luckily, with Escape Board UPR 122 attached, Jirachi TEU 99 will still be able to retreat for free, even while asleep.

It's important to be able to draw the right cards when you need them. That's why Cynthia UPR 119 has become a Standard staple in most decks. She can draw you additional cards as well as shuffling back cards that you don't have a current need for. Tate & Liza CES 148 can also be used to the same effect, just slightly smaller. It can also be used to switch your Active Pokemon with one from your Bench, allowing you to gain an advantage when attacking. Custom Catcher LOT 171 has the potential to allow you to switch your opponent's Pokemon with one from their Bench, which can be a way to gain a quick Prize card.

$ 0.00 $ 0.00

With Lt. Surge's Strategy UNB 178, you're able to gain a huge advantage by being able to play three Supporter cards on your turn as long as your opponent has taken more of their Prize cards than you have. Use this in the late game if you're behind, or discard it to Slowpoke & Psyduck-GX UNM 35's Ditch and Splash attack if you're winning so you can keep the pressure on your opponent.

$ 0.00 $ 0.00   $ 0.00 $ 0.00

Both Pokemon Fan Club UPR 133 and Cherish Ball UNM 191 allow you to find the Pokemon you need quicker than simply drawing them as your card for the turn. While Cherish Ball UNM 191 can only find your Pokemon-GX, you can search for any two Pokemon in this deck when you play Pokemon Fan Club UPR 133.

$ 0.00 $ 0.00

Lady FLI 109 is great to play early in the game so you can find the Energy you'll need to make successful attacks. Later on, when you've found enough Energy for your Pokemon, you can always discard her to Slowpoke & Psyduck-GX UNM 35's Ditch and Splash attack for a little extra damage.

$ 0.00 $ 0.00   $ 0.00 $ 0.00

If you find yourself against a deck that uses a number of Pokemon-GX, you'll want to find your copy of Choice Helmet LOT 169 sooner rather than later. Attach it to Keldeo-GX UNM 47 for maximum results. If you're lucky, you can keep Keldeo-GX UNM 47 in the game long enough for you to find a copy of Super Scoop Up CES 146. With it, along with a little luck for the coin flip, you can return Keldeo-GX UNM 47 to your hand and then return it to your Bench to be used again, all while denying your opponent any Prize cards. Note: When this deck was originally posted, it had 61 cards in it. The original list had three copies of Super Scoop Up CES 146, but I removed one copy in order to make the deck 60 cards.

$ 0.00 $ 0.00

Pal Pad UPR 132 is a great way to get additional uses out of your best Supporter cards. It also puts those Supporter cards back into your deck so you can search them out with Misty's Favor UNM 202 or with Jirachi TEU 99's Stellar Wish Ability.

$ 0.00 $ 0.00

Another way to find additional Supporter cards is by playing Pokegear 3.0 UNB 182. You'll only be able to put one that you find in the top seven cards of your deck into your hand, so choose wisely and pick the one that will make the most impact.

$ 0.00 $ 0.00

Viridian Forest TEU 156 is a great way to be able to filter Energy cards from your deck so you don't draw them during your turn. It helps you end up drawing a card that will likely have more of an impact on the game. Use Viridian Forest TEU 156 as often as you can so you'll always have the Energy needed to attack optimally.

Wrapping Up

While this isn't exactly a typical deck, it is a deck that still tries to win with conventional methods. You'll want to plan your turns out carefully so you're not throwing away the damage you get by discarding Supporter cards. If you enjoy playing decks that offer a challenge for you to figure out while playing, give this deck a try. I think it looks like a lot of fun and has the potential to pack quite a punch.

Thank you to PokeBeach Forum user Yaginku for posting this decklist.
