Searching Standard: Rowlet & Alolan Exeggutor-GX / Rillaboom Deck

Hello and welcome to another episode of Searching Standard. While we've almost reached the release of our newest set, Rebel Clash, we're not quite there just yet. This week, we'll be taking a look at a deck featuring Rowlet & Alolan Exeggutor-GX UNM 1 and Rillaboom SSH 14 that took First Place at a tournament in Japan that you can use when you play. Let's get started.

The Super Growth attack that Rowlet & Alolan Exeggutor-GX UNM 1 has can allow you the ability to evolve into Rillaboom SSH 14 as quickly as possible. That's important, as you will soon see. You can also use Rowlet & Alolan Exeggutor-GX UNM 1's Calming Hurricane attack which will deal 150 damage to your opponent's Active Pokemon while also healing 30 damage from Rowlet & Alolan Exeggutor-GX UNM 1.

As I mentioned earlier, it's important to evolve into Rillaboom SSH 14 as quickly as possible. That's because of Rillaboom SSH 14's Voltage Beat Ability, which allows you to ramp up the amount of Energy you have attached to your Pokemon. More Energy in play will allow you to use your more powerful attacks sooner than your opponent, giving you the ability to knock them out easier.

Dhelmise V SSH 9 is a great Pokemon to use on the turn after one of your Grass Type Pokemon is Knocked Out. With Anchor Anger, you'll deal 120 damage only requiring one Energy to be attached. Dhelmise V SSH 9 also has the Giga Hammer attack, which can be used every other turn, that will deal 200 damage.

Mewtwo & Mew-GX UNM 71 has the Perfection Ability, allowing you to use the attacks of any Pokemon-GX on your Bench or in your discard pile. That allows you to use a wider variety of Pokemon while still offering a bit of consistency. It also acts as a fail-safe in case a much needed Pokemon-GX attack is needed after certain Pokemon are Knocked Out.

Grovyle LOT 21's Sunshine Grace Ability allows you to search your deck for any Grass Type Pokemon to put into your hand. This ensures that you'll always be able to find the Pokemon you need when you need them. There are other Items that help you with this function, which I'll go over later.

This grouping of Pokemon are all very capable back-up attackers. Shaymin Prism Star TEU 10's Flower Storm attack has the potential to deal a massive amount of damage, assuming you have a lot of Basic Energy in play. Venusaur & Snivy-GX CEC 1's Shining Vine Ability allows you to switch your opponent's Active Pokemon with one from their Bench when you attach a Grass Energy 1 to it while it's your Active Pokemon. Doing this can set up an easy KO. Dragonite-GX UNM 152 has the Sky Judgment attack, which can deal a massive 270 damage. You can also use the Mach Delivery GX attack as a means to draw extra cards if you need to.

Mew UNB 76's Bench Barrier protects your team from any damage your opponent brings to your Benched Pokemon. In a pinch, you can use Mew UNB 76's Psypower attack, but I wouldn't make it a priority.

While you're hoping to use Rillaboom SSH 14's Voltage Beat Ability to help you evolve your Pokemon, sometimes you'll need to do it the old-fashioned way. That's what Evolution Incense SSH 163 and Rare Candy SSH 180 are for.

This batch of cards allows you to utilize cards from your discard pile, so you can use them again. It's especially important to be able to use your Energy again once it's been discarded, since you have ways to find it from your deck fairly easily.

This group of cards is all included to help you find the Pokemon you need. Net Ball LOT 187 can also help you find Grass Energy 1 if you need it to.

Tag Call CEC 206 can be used to help you find either a Tag Team Pokemon-GX or a Tag Team Supporter. Pokegear 3.0 SSH 174 also helps you find the Supporter cards you'll need to run smoothly.

Both Switch SSH 183 and Mallow & Lana CEC 198 allow you to switch your Active Pokemon with one from your Bench. This can allow you to set up an attack that's favorable for you, or allow you to keep a Pokemon from getting Knocked Out on your opponent's turn. Mallow & Lana CEC 198 also allows you to heal the Pokemon you send to your Bench of 120 damage.

This group of cards all help you draw additional cards, which, as you know, helps win games. Finding one of these Supporters with Pokegear 3.0 SSH 174 can be just what you need to be able to draw into the cards you need to achieve victory.

Cynthia & Caitlin CEC 189 is a great way to get additional use out of any of your Supporters. It's also usually worth it to discard another card from your hand in order to draw an additional three cards from your deck.

While Chaotic Swell CEC 187 is generally a Stadium that you play in order to prevent your opponent from gaining an advantage with their Stadium cards, Life Forest Prism Star LOT 180 can totally benefit you when you have it in play. It will heal 60 damage from one of your Grass Type Pokemon, keeping them in the game longer. It also removes any Special Conditions from that Pokemon, which can be devastating against certain decks. Remember that Stadiums affect both players, so you might not want to play Life Forest Prism Star LOT 180 if your opponent is also playing a Grass Type deck.

Wrapping Up

Rillaboom SSH 14's Voltage Beat Ability allows you to outpace your opponent by attaching more Energy to your Pokemon than normal. That can allow for some quick games since you're able to use attacks that deal more damage more quickly than your opponent.
