Searching Standard: Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX / Orbeetle VMAX Deck

Hello and welcome to another episode of Searching Standard. Last Friday saw the release of the Battle Styles expansion here in America, so it's time to start taking a look at decks built with these new cards. We start by taking a look at a deck from YouTuber, The Slowpoke Well, which features Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX BST 88. Let's get started by taking a look at the deck.

Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX BST 88 has a pair of great attacks that you can use to win games. Its Gale Thrust attack deals a total of 150 damage for a single Energy, as long as you're able to move Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX BST 88 from your Bench to your Active Spot before attacking this turn. You can also use Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX BST 88's G-Max Rapid Flow attack to deal 120 damage to two of your opponent's Benched Pokemon, but using this attack will force you to discard all Energy attached to Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX BST 88. By using this attack, you should hope to finish off an opponent unexpectedly.

Orbeetle VMAX VIV 21 helps add to the damage on your opponent's Benched Pokemon with its Eerie Beam Ability. This Ability allows you to place one damage counter on each of your opponent's Benched Pokemon if Orbeetle VMAX VIV 21 is in your Active Spot. Using this Ability allows you to Knock Out your opponent's Benched Pokemon easier when you attack with Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX BST 88's G-Max Rapid Flow attack.

This group of Pokemon are included for their utility. Crobat V DAA 104 and Dedenne-GX UNB 57 both help you draw additional cards, allowing you to find what you need from your deck more quickly. Mimikyu CEC 97's Shadow Box Ability negates any Ability your opponent's Pokemon-GX might have as long as there are any damage counters on that Pokemon. None of these Pokemon should be used to attack with unless you have no other alternative.

Bird Keeper DAA 159, Switch SSH 183, and Escape Rope BST 125 all allows you to switch your Active Pokemon with one from your Bench. Each of these cards will help you ensure that Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX BST 88 is able to deal 150 damage when you use its Gale Thrust attack.

By attaching U-Turn Board UNM 211 to Orbeetle VMAX VIV 21, you'll be able to retreat it for free. This can allow you to switch an Active Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX BST 88 with Orbeetle VMAX VIV 21 by using one of the cards from the previous group. Place damage counters with Orbeetle VMAX VIV 21's Eerie Beam Ability, and then retreat it for free bringing Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX BST 88 back to your Active Spot.

With Boss's Orders RCL 154, you can send an opponent's Active Pokemon with damage counters on it back to their Bench, enabling you to Knock it Out when you use Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX BST 88's G-Max Rapid Flow attack. By attaching Rapid Strike Scroll of Swirls BST 131 to your Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX BST 88 or Rapid Strike Urshifu V BST 87, you open up a new attack that can be used. Matchless Maelstrom offers another attack that you can use to put damage counters on all of your opponent's Pokemon.

You can make Lillie's Poke Doll CEC 197 your Active Pokemon if you need a little extra time to get things set up. This gives you a minimum of one extra turn without the risk of losing any of your Prize cards. With Cheryl BST 123, you can heal up Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX BST 88 after you've used its G-Max Rapid Flow attack if the game is still going on.

This group of cards all help you find the Pokemon you need when you need them. Quick Ball SSH 179 can help you find any Basic Pokemon, while Pokemon Communication TEU 152 can find any Pokemon as long as you can trade another Pokemon in. Turffield Stadium RCL 170 can only be used to help you find a copy of Orbeetle VMAX VIV 21, and against certain decks, it could help your opponent more than it helps you.

Marnie SSH 169 can help you replenish your hand while also hindering your opponent. It's also another way for you to be able to see extra cards from your deck in order to get what you need more quickly. Tool Scrapper RCL 168 is a purely defensive card, and against certain decks, playing it can give you quite an advantage (or take away their advantage).
