Searching Standard: Galarian Darmanitan VMAX Deck

Hello and welcome to another episode of Searching Standard. With winter happening here where I live in Wisconsin, I'm seeing occasional bouts of snow. That must be why I've decided to write about a deck this week featuring a snowman-like Pokemon, Galarian Darmanitan VMAX VIV 37. Let's begin by taking a look at the deck.

With a bit of luck, you'll be able to get things started by attacking with 2 Krabby SSH 42. Thanks to its Aqua Shower attack, you'll be able to deal 10 damage to each of your opponent's Pokemon. While that's not much damage, being able to start damaging each of your opponent's Pokemon at the same time helps set things up for your later attacks that deal more damage. It also allows you to attach Energy to the rest of the team easily with our next Pokemon...

Thanks to Frosmoth SSH 64's Ice Dance Ability, you'll be able to attach as much Water Energy 3 as you have in your hand to any of your Benched Water Type Pokemon. This Ability is the engine that powers this deck, so you'll want to try to get it online as quickly as possible.

While Galarian Darmanitan VMAX VIV 37 has but one attack, it has the potential to produce multiple Knock Outs when you use it. The Max Whiteout attack does 200 damage to your opponent's Active Pokemon and 30 damage to each of their Benched Pokemon. It also gets you closer to being able to use the next Pokemon's GX-attack to score multiple Knock Outs...

While Alolan Sandslash-GX PR-SM SM236's Frost Breath attack is good, the main reason this Pokemon is in this deck is for the explosiveness it provides when you use its Spiky Storm-GX attack. This attack deals 100 damage to each of your opponent's Pokemon that have at least one damage counter on it. Because of the other damage that you're able to deal to your opponent's Benched Pokemon, this attack can allow you to potentially Knock Out your opponent's entire team at once.

Both Crobat V DAA 104 and Dedenne-GX UNB 57 are supporting Pokemon in this deck. Each of their Abilities allow you to draw additional cards, helping you find the cards you need faster.

With so many Pokemon in this deck having the capability of damaging your opponent's Benched Pokemon, it should come as no surprise to find a full playset of Telescopic Sight VIV 160 included in this deck. The extra 30 damage you can deal to your opponent's Benched Pokemon V and Pokemon-GX can allow them to be KO'd easier with Alolan Sandslash-GX PR-SM SM236's Spiky Storm-GX attack.

Much like the supporting Pokemon I mentioned earlier, the playsets of Professor's Research CPA 62 and Marnie CPA 56 help you find what you need quickly. Both of these are essential, helping you draw additional Water Energy 3 that you can attach with Frosmoth SSH 64's Ice Dance Ability.

Our next grouping of cards all help you find the Pokemon you need to run efficiently. Quick Ball SSH 179 can help you find any Basic Pokemon. Evolution Incense SSH 163 helps you find the Evolution Pokemon you need. Pokemon Communication TEU 152 allows you to trade in any Pokemon from your hand for any other Pokemon, giving you the ability to find any Pokemon you need with ease.

Since this deck relies on attacks that require multiple Energy and you're able to attach multiple Energy per turn, you'll need ways of finding extra Energy to play. Capacious Bucket RCL 156 allows you to search your deck for up to two Water Energy 3 to put into your hand. It's a great way to find extra Energy from within your deck to play. Both Energy Retrieval SSH 160 and Training Court RCL 169 provide you a means of utilizing Energy that is in your discard pile. Thanks to these cards, you don't need to worry about running out of Energy for this deck.

The final couple of cards are utility cards that can be used as needed. Boss's Orders RCL 154 offers you a way of choosing which of your opponents’ Pokemon will be their Active Pokemon. You can use this to set up an easy KO. Air Balloon SSH 156 provides you a way of retreating easier. After you've attacked with Alolan Sandslash-GX PR-SM SM236's Spiky Storm-GX attack, you can retreat it for free if you have an Air Balloon SSH 156 attached. This will help prevent your opponent scoring a Knock Out and taking multiple Prize cards.

Wrapping Up

If you like the thought of setting up one big attack that can Knock Out multiple Pokemon, then you should give this deck a try. I'm looking forward to building it online and giving it a whirl.
