Searching Standard: Arceus & Dialga & Palkia-GX / Keldeo-GX Deck

Hello and welcome to another episode of Searching Standard. On November 15, we had our first major tournament where cards from Cosmic Eclipse were legal in Standard. It took place at the Sao Paulo International, where Robin Schulz took home the trophy piloting a Reshiram & Charizard-GX Fire Box deck. Congratulations on your victory, Robin! While Robin's deck may have won this tournament, it's not the deck I'll be discussing with you. Instead, I'll be looking at the deck that took Third Place and was piloted by Giovanni Peragallo. Let's get started by taking a look at the deck.

Arceus & Dialga & Palkia-GX CEC 156, or ADP as it's most often referred to as, almost made it into my Top Ten cards I want to see played from Cosmic Eclipse. With its Ultimate Ray attack, you're able to deal out 150 damage while simultaneously powering up the rest of your team. Arceus & Dialga & Palkia-GX CEC 156 also has the Altered Creation GX attack, allowing you to deal an additional 30 damage with each attack you make for the rest of the game. That additional damage will certainly add up. Altered Creation GX also offers you the possibility of taking an additional Prize card whenever your opponent's Active Pokemon is Knocked Out by damage from those attacks. Can you imaging being able to take four Prize cards by Knocking Out an opposing Tag Team Pokemon? This ability will allow you to win games much faster than normal.

Keldeo-GX UNM 47's Pure Heart Ability makes it the perfect Pokemon to use when your opponent is relying on their Pokemon-GX. By making Keldeo-GX UNM 47 your Active Pokemon, you can trap an opponent's Pokemon-GX in place as their Active Pokemon, especially if they are running a deck with a minimal amount of Energy and they don't want to discard any of it to pay a high Retreat Cost. Keldeo-GX UNM 47 also has the Sonic Edge attack that you can count on to deal 110 damage.

If your opponent is playing a team that features a lot of Pokemon-GX, you'll want to get Mega Lopunny & Jigglypuff-GX CEC 165 into play as quickly as possible. Thanks to its Jumping Balloon attack, you can deal anywhere from 60 to 420 damage. While you won't hit the higher amounts of damage often, it can be fun seeing how close you can get. If you haven't already used your GX attack for the game, you can use Mega Lopunny & Jigglypuff-GX CEC 165's Puffy Smashers GX attack to deal 200 damage to one of your opponent's Benched Pokemon. You'll only want to do this if doing so will win you the game on the spot, though, as it's usually better to save your GX attack for Arceus & Dialga & Palkia-GX CEC 156's Altered Creation GX attack.

By attaching Energy to Lucario & Melmetal-GX UNB 120 when using Arceus & Dialga & Palkia-GX CEC 156's Ultimate Ray attack, you'll have the energy needed to use Heavy Impact in no time. This allows Lucario & Melmetal-GX UNB 120 to be a great backup attacker in the event that Arceus & Dialga & Palkia-GX CEC 156 gets Knocked Out.

This grouping of Pokemon are all included in this deck for their ability to draw you additional cards. With Dedenne-GX UNB 57's Dedechange Ability, you'll be able to draw a brand new hand of six cards after playing Dedenne-GX UNB 57 on your Bench. While you will need to discard your hand before drawing the new hand, you can mitigate this effect by playing as many cards from your hand as possible before playing Dedenne-GX UNB 57. Zebstrika LOT 82's Sprint Ability allows you to discard your hand and draw four new cards. You'll want to use this ability the same was as Dedenne-GX UNB 57's Dedechange Ability, by playing as many cards as possible before using Sprint.

With Drampa CEC 159's Dragon Arcana attack, it should be fairly easy to deal 140 damage, especially if you're able to make sure you have the necessary different types of Energy attached to it after using Arceus & Dialga & Palkia-GX CEC 156's Ultimate Ray attack. Phione CEC 57 is included in this deck mainly for its Whirlpool Suction Ability. Play Phione CEC 57 to your Bench and then use it to switch your opponent's Active Pokemon with one from their Bench, making sure you set up an easy Knock Out.

Stellar Wish is the reason for the inclusion of Jirachi TEU 99 in this deck. Using this Ability allows you to search your deck faster for the Trainer cards you'll need. Since using this Ability will leave Jirachi TEU 99 Asleep , you'll usually want to use it when you have an Escape Board UPR 122 attached to it so you can retreat for free (even while Asleep) and move up a Pokemon that you can attack with.

Cynthia UPR 119 is one of the best card drawing Supporters currently in Standard. She's usually found in most competitive decks, so it's no surprise to see a full playset of her here in this deck. With Cynthia & Caitlin CEC 189, you'll be able to get a Supporter card back from your Discard Pile to be able to pay it again on a future turn. You'll also likely want to discard another card from your hand when you play it so you can draw three additional cards.

All of these cards allow you to set up favorable combats. With both Switch CES 147 and Mallow & Lana CEC 198, you'll be able to switch your Active Pokemon with one from your Bench. More often than not, you won't use the additional ability to heal 120 damage from the Pokemon you moved to your Bench, but it nice to have that ability if you need it. Great Catcher CEC 192 allows you to switch your opponent's Active Pokemon with one of their Benched Pokemon-GX. This can be especially useful if your opponent plays a Pokemon-GX to Bench that requires a lot of Energy to use any of its attacks. Move it up and take it out quickly to draw your two (or three) Prize cards before it gets enough Energy to attack.

This grouping of cards allows you to find the Pokemon you need when you need them. You can also use Tag Call CEC 206 to find your Tag Team Supporters as well. Either of these cards are a great way to find a copy of Arceus & Dialga & Palkia-GX CEC 156 if you need one.

Most Standard decks run a copy of Reset Stamp UNM 206 as a way to catch up if that player falls behind on Prize cards. Choice Helmet LOT 169 is a great way for your Pokemon to be able to take a little bit less damage from your opponent's Pokemon-GX. Chaotic Swell CEC 187 is the ultimate nullifier of an opponent's Stadium cards. Play Chaotic Swell CEC 187 to discard a Stadium they have in play, and then the next Stadium they play will also have no effect other than causing Chaotic Swell CEC 187 to be discarded.

Wrapping Up

Arceus & Dialga & Palkia-GX CEC 156 looks like a fun, powerful Pokemon to play. When paired up with Keldeo-GX UNM 47, you get this deck that has been proven to do well at a major tournament.
