Flash Forward: Galarian Cursola, Dragapult, & Boltund V Decks

Hello and welcome to Flash Forward, the article series that provides you with a sneak peek of some decks that will be Standard legal with the release of the next upcoming set. We're continuing our look at some decks from Japan featuring cards from their latest expansion, VMAX Rising. I have three more decks for you this week, so let's get started.

Galarian Cursola / Shedinja Deck

The first deck I have for you features a new evolution. Let's take a look at the deck featuring Galarian Cursola.

New Card Translations

Galarian Corsola - Psychic - 80 HP

Pokemon - Basic

[P] Cursed Drop

Put 3 damage counters on your opponent's Pokemon in any way you like.

Weakness: Darkness
Resistance: Fighting
Retreat: 2

Galarian Cursola - Psychic - 100 HP

Pokemon - Stage 1

Ability: Body Of Destruction

If this is your active Pokemon and knocked out by damage from an attack from your opponent's Pokemon, flip a coin. If heads, the attacking Pokemon is knocked out.

[P][C] Corner: 60

The Defending Pokemon can't retreat during your opponent's next turn.

Weakness: Darkness
Resistance: Fighting
Retreat: 2

Sonia

Trainer - Supporter

Search your deck for 2 Basic Pokemon or for 2 Basic Energy, reveal them and put them into your hand. Then, shuffle your deck.

Galarian Cursola's Body of Destruction Ability can make your opponent nervous about attacking. Because of this Ability, you can Knock Out your opponent's Active Pokemon if Galarian Cursola gets Knocked Out by damage from an opponent's attack. To get the most out of this Ability, you'll want to keep attacking with Galarian Cursola's Corner attack, which removes the Defending Pokemon's ability to retreat during the next turn. It also deal 60 damage, so you can slowly whittle away the Defending Pokemon's HP. This deck also includes a new Supporter, Sonia, who can help you find the Basic Energy you'll need, which is especially important since there only three Energy in total in this deck.

Dragapult / Malamar Deck

The next deck I have for you features some newcomers alongside an established engine. Let's take a look at it.

New Card Translations

Applin - Grass - 40 HP

Pokemon - Basic

[G][C] Continuous Tumble

Flip a coin until you get tails. This attack does 30 more damage for each heads.

Weakness: Fire
Resistance: None
Retreat: 1

Appletun - Grass - 90 HP

Pokemon - Stage 1

Ability: Delicious Fragrance

Once during your turn, you flip a coin. If heads, switch 1 of your opponent's benched basic Pokemon with their active Pokemon.

[G][C] Solar Beam: 70

Weakness: Fire
Resistance: None
Retreat: 3

Dreepy - Psychic - 60 HP

Pokemon - Basic

[P] Quick Attack

Flip a coin. If heads, this attack does 10 more damage.

Weakness: Darkness
Resistance: Fighting
Retreat: 1

Drakloak - Psychic - 90 HP

Pokemon - Stage 1

[C] Invokes

Search your deck for a Dreepy and put it onto your bench. Then, shuffle your deck.

[P][P] Bite: 40

Weakness: Darkness
Resistance: Fighting
Retreat: 1

Dragapult - Psychic - 150 HP

Pokemon - Stage 2

Ability: Infiltrator

If any damage is done to this Pokemon by attacks, flip a coin. If heads, prevent that damage.

[P][P] Phantom Force: 120

Put 3 damage counter on your opponent's benched Pokemon in any way you like.

Weakness: Darkness
Resistance: Fighting
Retreat: 0

Milo

Trainer - Supporter

Discard up to 2 cards from your hand. Draw 2 cards for each card you discarded.

The engine I referred to earlier is Malamar FLI 51. With it's Psychic Recharge Ability, you'll be able to continue to power up your team with Energy that has gone to your discard pile. You can use that Energy to power up Dragapult and use its Phantom Force attack which does a respectable 120 damage. Dragapult also has the Infiltrator Ability which allows it to prevent damage that it has taken from an attack if a coin flip is won. Since we've already seen decks that feature Whimsicott-GX UNB 140 that have been tournament worthy, you can expect to see Dragapult being played as well.

Boltund V / Vikavolt Deck

The final deck I have for you this week features the evolution of Yamper. Let's take a look at the deck.

New Card Translations

Boltund V - Lightning - 200 HP

Pokemon - Basic

[L] Electrify

Search your deck for 2 [L] energy and attach them to your benched Pokemon in any way you like. Then, shuffle your deck.

[L][C] Lightning Storm

This attack does 30 more damage times the amount of [L] Energy attached to your Pokemon.

Weakness: Fighting
Resistance: None
Retreat: 2

While this deck doesn't actually feature Yamper, it does feature Boltund V. Boltund V has a couple of attacks that go hand-in-hand with each other. Electrify does no damage, but it allows you to find two Lightning Energy 4 from your deck and attach them to your team however you would like. Lightning Storm deals 30 damage for each Lightning Energy 4 you have attached to your Pokemon. Since there are six Lightning Energy 4 in this deck, you'll be able to deal a maximum of 180 damage with this attack.

Wrapping Up

Over the past couple of weeks, I've brought you decks built with cards from VMAX Rising that have showcased some of the new cards and Pokemon. Next week we'll begin taking a look at some decks that have done well in tournaments.

What do you think of these decks? Do you have any suggestions for improvements? Leave a comment below and let me know what Pokemon you'd like to see featured in next week's decks.

And be sure to join me here again next week as I continue showing you innovative decks using cards from upcoming sets. I'll see you then (in the future!).
