Flash Forward: Blaziken VMAX, Tauros, and Weezing Decks

Hello and welcome to Flash Forward, the article series that provides you with a sneak peek of some decks that will be Standard legal with the release of the next upcoming set. I'm still looking at decks that were created featuring new cards from Silver Lance and Jet-Black Spirit, Japan's next releases. Let's get started.

Blaziken VMAX / Rapid Strike Scroll of Skies Deck

The first deck I have for you features some Energy acceleration by Blaziken VMAX. Let's take a look at the deck.

New Card Translations

Blaziken V – Fire – HP210
Basic Pokemon (Rapid Strike)

[C][C] High Jump Kick: 50 damage.

[R][R][C][C] Fire Spin: 210 damage. Discard 2 Energy from this Pokemon.

Weakness: Water (x2)
Resistance: None
Retreat: 2

Blaziken VMAX – Fire – HP320
Pokemon VMAX (Rapid Strike) – Evolves from Blaziken V

[R] Clutch: 60 damage. The Defending Pokemon can’t retreat during your opponent’s next turn.

[C][C] Max Blaze: 130 damage. Attach an Energy card from your discard pile to up to 2 of your Benched Rapid Strike Pokemon.

Weakness: Water (x2)
Resistance: None
Retreat: 2

Kecleon – Colorless – HP90
Basic Pokemon (Rapid Strike)

Ability: Colorful change
This Pokemon is the same type as the Basic Energy attached to it. (If 2 or more types of Basic Energy are attached, it becomes all of those types.)

[C][C][C] Spinning Attack: 90 damage.

Weakness: Fighting (x2)
Resistance: none
Retreat: 2

Zeraora V – Lightning – HP210
Basic Pokemon (Rapid Strike)

[L][C][C] Cross Fist: 100 damage. If any of your other Rapid Strike Pokemon used an attack during your last turn, this attack does 160 damage to 1 of your opponent’s Benched Pokemon. (Don’t apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokemon.)

When your Pokemon V is Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.

Weakness: Fighting (x2)
Resistance: none
Retreat: 2

Rapid Strike Scroll of Skies – Trainer
Item (Rapid Strike)

Attach a Pokemon Tool to 1 of your Pokemon that doesn’t already have a Pokemon Tool attached.

The Rapid Strike Pokemon this card is attached to can use the attack on this card.

[L][C] Flying Suplex: 10+ damage. This attack does 50 more damage for each Energy attached to your opponent’s Active Pokemon.

You may play as many Item cards as you like during your turn.

Thank to Blaziken VMAX's Max Blaze attack, you will be able to accelerate the amount of Energy attached to your team. Max Blaze requires two Energy of any type to use, and it will deal 130 damage to your opponent's Active Pokemon. You'll also be able to attach an Energy from your discard pile to up to two of your Benched Rapid Strike Pokemon. By doing this, you can often power up a Pokemon that your opponent has a Weakness to.

Rapid Strike Scroll of Skies can also be a great way to deal a ton of damage. By attaching Rapid Strike Scroll of Skies to one of your Rapid Strike Pokemon, you'll gain the ability to attack with the Flying Suplex attack. This attack does a base of 10 damage, plus an additional 50 damage for each Energy attached to your opponent's Active Pokemon. It provides a great attack that nearly any of your Pokemon will be able to use.

Tauros / Houndoom Deck

Next, I have a deck featuring Tauros that deals extra damage when Tauros is wounded. Let's check it out.

New Card Translations

Tauros – Colorless – HP130
Basic Pokemon (Single Strike)

[C][C] Raging Bull: 20+ damage. This attack does 20 more damage for each damage counter on this Pokemon. This Pokemon is now Confused.

[C][C] Take-Down: 80 damage. This Pokemon does 30 damage to itself.

Weakness: Fighting (x2)
Resistance: none
Retreat: 2

Old Cemetery – Trainer
Stadium

Whenever a player attaches an Energy from their hand to 1 of their Pokemon (excluding [P] Pokemon), put 2 damage counters on that Pokemon.

This Stadium stays in play when you play it. Discard it if another Stadium comes into play. If a Stadium with the same name is in play, you can’t play this card.

The main attacker in this deck is Tauros. By attacking with its Raging Bull attack, you'll deal a minimum of 20 damage. However, this attack will deal an additional 20 damage for each damage counter on Tauros. You can get damage counters on Tauros through the normal course of the game by taking damage from an opponent's attacks, or you can actively put damage counters on Tauros yourself.

If you have Houndoom BST 96 in play, you can use its Single Strike Roar Ability to search your deck for a Single Strike Energy BST 141 to attach to one of your Single Strike Pokemon. Doing this will place two damage counters on that Pokemon. If you also have a copy of Old Cemetery in play, you'll put two damage counters on any non-Psychic Type Pokemon whenever you attach an Energy to that Pokemon. By using both of these things, you'll be able to deal an additional 80 damage with Tauros's Raging Bull attack.

Weezing / Galarian Moltres Deck

The final deck I have for you this week features two different versions of Weezing. Let's take a look at it.

New Card Translations

Galarian Moltres V – Darkness – HP220
Basic Pokemon

Ability: Bolstered Wings
Once during your turn, you may attach a [D] Energy from your discard pile to this Pokemon. You can’t use more than 1 Bolstered Wings Ability per turn.

[D][D][C] Aura Burn: 190 damage. This Pokemon does 30 damage to itself.

When your Pokemon V is Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.

Weakness: Grass (x2)
Resistance: None
Retreat: 2

Galarian Weezing – Darkness – HP130
Stage 1 – Evolves from Koffing

Ability: Energy Factory
Each basic [D] Energy attached to your Pokemon with “Weezing” in its name provides [D][D] Energy. You can’t apply more than 1 Energy Factory Ability at a time.

[D][C] Suffocating Gas: 50 damage

Weakness: Fighting (x2)
Resistance: none
Retreat: 2

Weezing – Darkness – HP130
Stage 1 – Evolves from Koffing

[D] Blend Toxin: Your opponent’s Active Pokemon is now Confused. Attach a [D] Energy from your discard pile to this Pokemon.

[D][C] Smog Burst: 20+ damage. This attack does 20 more damage for each [D] Energy attached to your Pokemon in play.

Weakness: Fighting (x2)
Resistance: None
Retreat: 2

This deck has a few ways to make the most of its Energy. First, Galarian Moltres V has the Bolstered Wings Ability, which allows you to attach a Darkness Energy 7 from your discard pile to itself. This can allow you to power up its Aura Burn attack very quickly. With this attack, you'll be dealing 190 damage to your opponent's Active Pokemon each time you use it, but it will also deal 30 damage to Galarian Moltres V. This makes Galarian Moltres V a great secondary attacker in this deck.

The primary attacker, though, is Weezing. By attacking with its Smog Burst attack, you'll deal a base of 20 damage plus 20 more damage for each Darkness Energy 7 attached to your Pokemon in play. Thanks to Galarian Weezing's Energy Factory Ability, any Basic Darkness Energy 7 attached to your Pokemon with "Weezing" in their name will provide double that much Energy. With this Ability, you'll be able to deal quite a bit of damage with Smog Burst.

Wrapping Up

Whether you're dealing additional damage thank to Weakness or due to a Pokemon's Ability, Japan's Silver Lance and Jet-Black Spirit have cards that help you defeat your opponent quickly.
