Creative Concepts: The Avengers

Marshadow & Machamp-GX UNB 82Welcome to another edition of Creative Concepts! These articles take a look at decks that take creative combinations of cards and bring them together to form a potentially powerful deck. Who needs Iron Man or Captain America when you've got Pokemon on your side? We promise no Avengers: Endgame spoilers here, just a fun deck!

What inspired us to assemble this deck was Marshadow & Machamp-GX. Out of all the Tag Team-GX released thus far, most people have considered it among the worst. It certainly lacks the massive damage capability of Pikachu & Zekrom-GX or Reshiram & Charizard-GX nor the crazy attacks something like Magikapr & Wailord-GX has to offer. So what made this the card that started the deck? Well Avengers must avenge and Marshadow & Machamp must get Revenge!

[F][C] Revenge: 30+
If any of your Pokémon were Knocked Out by damage from an opponent’s attack during their last turn, this attack does 90 more damage.

The damage might not look to be too much at first, but we have ways of bringing it up further. Oh, and did I mention we've built an entire team based around avenging your fallen Pokemon and using being behind in prizes to be able to ultimately win you the game? What if we even built it to be prepared for the rotation? If this sounds too good to be true, put on your capes and come take a look at the decklist below!

Mimikyu-GX LOT 149You may notice a trend: each Pokemon present has a way to deal extra damage when one of its allies falls. From Umbreon LOT 120 to Toxicroak UPR 57 each is ready to strike at the moment a friend might fall. There are only a few exceptions to this rule. Ditto Prism Star helps you manage the multiple evolutions that are in the deck. We use Eevee-GX as it can evolve up to Umbreon faster than any other options available post rotation. Buzzwole FLY 77 may not enact revenge in a typical fashion, but when you're down to four prizes this PokeHulk will Sledgehammer opponents for a single attachment! You'll notice most of these attacks will only be managing to do 120 damage, but we have a Pokemon ready to help finish whatever you damage off! Mimikyu-GX can use Let's Snuggle & Fall to help crush your enemies that remain.

As you've noticed, there are a lot of different typed Pokemon in this deck. Thanks to Rainbow Energy and Unit Energy FightingDarknessFairy each has the tools they need to launch their attacks. If we plan to fight from behind, how will we take advantage of it? One of our tools to do so comes from Martial Arts Dojo. If you're behind on prizes and have a Pokemon with a basic Fighting Energy your damage will be boosted by 40! Pulling in Marshadow & Machamp, Mimikyu-GX, Toxicroak, or your Buzzwole after a loss can make your damage that much more massive!

Still, you're potentially behind on prizes, what else can we do? Lt. Surge's Strategy is built to help your cause! A chance to play two other Supporters on your turn can help you massively. Post rotation there are far fewer Pokemon search options so the ability to more freely use Pokemon Fan Club is a great boon! As Ditto and Eevee are the only Pokemon with an ability, evolve them and start grabbing whatever you need with Green's Exploration. Pokegear 3.0 and PokeNav could come in handy! Or simply get your hand refreshed or built up with Cynthia, Lillie, or Erika's Hospitality

Still, you plan to be down on prizes unless you are fortunate to get ahead, how do you manage the final blow? You have a few options. Potentially you're lucky and Buzzwole simply hulks through the opponent once they take more prizes. Or, you can bring out Mimikyu-GX before the opponent can take the final prize, dealing your damage that way. Of course let's not forget Mashadow & Machamp-GX does have Hundred Blows Impact as well as Acme of Heroism, the latter of which protects it from taking damage, that can serve as options strong enough to take down the opponent's final Pokemon.

We hoped you enjoyed our take on a Pokemon team of Avengers! We'd love to hear what you think. Did you try the deck and take down Thanos, er, your opponents? Are there some tweaks you'd make to the deck? Tell us in the comments below or let the deck builder herself know over on Twitter @LiteralGrill. Until next time, stay lit trainers!
