Creative Concepts: KingdraNadel

Welcome to another edition of Creative Concepts! These articles take a look at decks that take creative combinations of cards and bring them together to form a potentially powerful deck. Quagsire & Naganadel decks, known by their nickname QuagaNadel, have been popping up in lots of events recently. From the Special Event Melbourne to the Sheffield Regionals, they've been having a bit of success. Still, we had to ask ourselves the question what if we could take a similar deck and deal even more amounts of damage? Thanks to a new card from Hidden Fates we may have found a way to do just that. So what are we waiting for, let's show off the deck!

Charging Up

Misty's Water Command HIF 63Naganadel LOT 108Beast Ring FLI 102

So you can see from the deck our main attacker is Kingdra-GX. Dealing an extra 50 damage per Water Energy attached is really good, but how do we accelerate that Energy? First, we start with Naganadel. Its ability Charging Up allows it to take Water Energy from the discard and attach it to itself. On the correct turns Beast Ring can help get even more Energy on as well. From here we use our new card from Hidden Fates: Misty's Water Command! With it, all of these Energy cards attached to Nagandel can be quickly moved over to your Horsea.

This is a vital part of how this decks work so you have to be sure to do it in the right order. The Energy has to be switched over before evolving up into Kingdra-GX or you'll be stuck only attaching manually. With a manual attachment with three Naganadel on the field however, you could pull off attacks for over 200 Damage easy. As you're not weak against Lightning Types, you're also likely to withstand any attacks from meta decks to come back and swing again if you can't manage a OHKO the very first time. Against Fire Decks? Well, they don't stand a chance!

Let's Set Up

Bill's Analysis HIF 51Ultra Space FLI 115Pokemon Communication TEU 152

This deck has incredible flexibility in finding the Pokemon you need. Ultra Space pulls out your Poipole and Naganadel alongside Mysterious Treasure, which can also get your Water Energy into the discard pile when you need them. Of course you'll also need to pull out your Horsea and Kingdra-GX, so Pokemon Communication can help you swap out these Psychic Types when needed. Getting that Rare Candy on the right turn as well as searching out some of these other helpful cards is really useful as well. This is why we've included Bill's Analysis in the deck. It can potentially get you set up for a perfect evolving turn or have you simply ready to fire off the turn after in glorious fashion.

Dealing Damage

Kingdra-GX DRM 18Seadra DRM 17Horsea DRM 16

The biggest thought here comes down to just how much damage you're dealing with your main attackers. Below we've included a useful chart to show how much damage each Pokemon with Hydro Pump deals depending on the Energy attached. We've included weakness damage as well, as you may even be able to snag some lucky knockouts using Seadra and even Horsea if you're desperate against some Fire Type decks. Take a look!

Hydro Pump Damage Chart

# Of Energy 1 2 3 4 5 6
Horsea 20 30 40 50 60 70
Seadra 30 50 70 90 110 130
Kingdra-GX 60 110 160 210 260 310
Horsea x2 40 60 80 100 120 140

Seadra x2

60 100 70 180 220 260
Kingdra-GX x2 120 220 320 420 520 620

As you can see, especially against Fire Type decks which are very popular currently, the damage output you can manage becomes massive! Don't be afraid to use Seadra if you absolutely need to at times as well. it's not only there to help you evolve up if needed but to be a one prize attacker alongside Nadanadel itself if you need it. Heck even Horsea can beat Volcanion UNB 25 if you had no other choice. Keep those damage counts in mind!

We hope you enjoyed this creative concept! We'd love to hear if you tried it in any games and what changes you might make to the deck. Sound off in the comments below or let the deck builder herself know directly over on Twitter @LiteralGrill. Until next time, stay lit trainers!
