Budget Blast: Energy Crunch ($31)

Welcome to Budget Blast where we show you decks that pack a punch without breaking your budget! This is the next deck we'll be showing off for Fire Week, a week based on showing off different ways to play the powerful fire-based tools in the format. Welder, Heat Factory Prism Star, Giant Hearth, Fiery Flint, there are just so many fantastic cards out there for Fire types right now. Fire Decks right now are amazing at getting a lot of Energy attached fast and then crushing the opponent. But what about a Fire Deck that controls how much Energy the opponent can actually have? That's what we're looking at today with Energy Crunch!

Energy Denial

Pyroar LOT 51Florges FLI 86Crushing Hammer SUM 115

We do play a one of Nita, an amazing card for Energy denial in the current format, but that's not our main way to stop the opponent. Pyroar's Crunch is not only easily chargeable by Welder and Giant Hearth but also cuts an Energy from the opponent's active Pokemon each time you attack. It's still not fast enough to move all on its own however, it needs support. Crushing Hammer brought back by Florges's ability Wondrous Gift can do the trick though! It's not perfect as a coin flip is needed, but on the right turns you can make your opponent's Welder, or whatever other tools they used invalid in a moment.

Let's Set Up
Bill's Analysis HIF 51Order Pad UPR 131Professor Elm's Lecture LOT 188

We combined Bill's Analysis with Order Pad to try and get Rare Candy as quickly as possible. Especially as Flabebe can evolve on your first turn if you go second! Order Pad can always be good discard fodder for Giant Hearth. Of course Professor Elm's Lecture can get your bench set up fast which is also incredibly helpful.

Weaknesses
Volcanion UNB 25Naganadel LOT 108Trick Coin PHF 108

This deck does have some tough times in specific matchups. Let's face it, accelerating Energy can be really easy in this format. Heatran, Quagsire and Naganadel, Malamar, things like this can make it so despite your ability to take down the opponent's Energy reserves you may not be able to stop them. With enough Fire Crystal you may have a hard time getting them to the point where they can't attack, which is where this deck thrives. Finally, this deck really does need a lot of lucky coin flips to work. If you're having an unlucky day, there's a good chance you simply won't win.

We hope you enjoyed the first deck in our week-long fiery celebration! We'd love to hear what you think, especially if you tried out the deck. Tell us all your thoughts in the comments below or let the deck builder herself know over on Twitter @LiteralGrill. Until next time, stay lit trainers!
